Update on BDCR
Tuesday, 30 December 2008
The initial group behind Bridgnorth District Community Radio is currently inactive, however I will be keeping this site live so if you are connected with the Bridgnorth District area of Shropshire and are interested in contributing original audio items I would love to hear from you. Possible items might be podcats produced by your school or community group, reports on local events or local sports news. You don't need sophisticated studio equipment, a computer with a decent microphone is lideal but usable material can be recorded on a mobile phone. If you are a local (Shropshire or West Midlands) band or musician with original material please get in touch. In the first instance contact BDCR via the contact page on this site.

About BDCR
Friday, 27 June 2008

Bridgnorth District Community Radio is a voluntary group, founded by local man Mark Hatley, with aspirations to apply for a Community Radio licence to broadcast on FM to the Bridgnorth District of Shropshire. The emergence of commercial radio groups run from London with networked programming intended to "compete with BBC Radio" means truly local independent radio is a distant memory. (Did you know for instance that in the West Midlands Beacon, Beacon Shropshire, BRMB, Heart, WABC, Galaxy, Gold and a few digital only services are, at the time of writing, all owned by the same company?) Currently amongst a plethora of radio stations only BBC Radio Shropshire generates significant local content but with a big county like Shropshire individual towns and districts often don't get air time. That's where community radio comes in. To learn more about community radio visit Ofcom's site here

To have a chance of winning a licence BDCR needs to build some programming momentum and local support and this website has been devised for that purpose. This is a community resource, we would love to hear from you with your news, what's on, and local issues. If you are a band that wants to reach a wider audience you can get your music on our playlist. Don't worry about the technical aspects, if you have something you want to broadcast  please contact us via the contact form here
